Odisha: State EC Adds NOTA For Urban Polls

In the latest update, the Odisha Urban Local Bodies polls will have a new option added. None of the above (NOTA) choice will be utilized without precedent for the forthcoming elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Odisha. State Election Commission (SEC), Odisha has given a request to carry out the new arrangement on Friday.

“The State Election Commission, in exercise of abilities vested in it under Article 243-ZA of the Constitution, coordinates that the choice NOTA (nothing from what was just mentioned) will be given to the balloters to the overall races to Urban Local Bodies,” read the request.

The words NOTA will be imprinted in the last board after the last competitor and the NOTA image will be imprinted on the image segment, it said. There is no arrangement of giving NOTA choice to the voters under the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950 and the Odisha Municipal Corporation Act, 2003 and the Rules outlined there under.

Notwithstanding, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has given the choice of NOTA to the voters for decisions to official congregations and Lok Sabha. So taking into account that, the SEC has chosen to give the NOTA choice to the citizens during the ULB survey, official sources said.

Decisions for 107 Municipalities/NACs and three Corporations Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur are probably going to be led not long after the Panchayat survey in Odisha. The delimitation of wards, reservation seats and any remaining conventions expected to direct the ULB political decision has as of now been finished.
