Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das, hinted at changing Hyderabad’s name to Bhagyanagar, To which Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao opposed by saying that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) should change Ahmedabad’s name to Adanibad first.
The response is closely associated with BJP and Gautam Adani’s relation, Gautam Adani has been previously also called as “Modi’s Rockefeller”. Das announced ahead of the BJP’s national executive meeting in Hyderabad that Bhagyanagar would be the name of the capital if the BJP won the next legislative elections in Telangana.
During PM Modi’s address to party delegates from across the country yesterday, the Prime Minister referred to Hyderabad as “Bhagyanagar.”

When asked later if Hyderabad’s name would be changed to Bhagyanagar, Union Minister Piyush Goyal responded, “When the BJP comes to power in the state, the chief minister will decide this along with cabinet colleagues.”
Many BJP leaders have hinted at renaming Hyderabad, including Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath (during the 2020 GHMC elections). There has been a history of the BJP renaming cities (Allahabad to Prayagraj being the most popular), but the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has been vocal in its criticism.
