Osmania General Hospital Launches 24×7 Patient Assistance Services for the First Time

In a landmark move to improve patient care, Osmania General Hospital (OGH) — Telangana’s largest and oldest tertiary care hospital — has introduced round-the-clock (24x7x365) patient assistance services for the first time in its history. This transformative initiative has been made possible by non-profit organisations, aiming to assist patients and their families across the vast hospital premises.

A dedicated helpline number (7780288622) has also been launched to provide mobility support, navigational guidance, and other critical services. The initiative targets the often-overlooked nighttime emergencies, when nearly 25% of medical cases arrive at the hospital.

The service will particularly benefit patients using the dialysis unit, which operates continuously for over 120-130 patients per day. The project is funded by the Basheer and Sarwar Babu Khan Human Development Trust (BSB HDT) and implemented by the Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) — a non-profit organization with over a decade of experience in government healthcare support.

An unused space near the OP Block ramp, close to the casualty ward, has been converted into a fully equipped patient assistance war room. More than 20 trained HHF volunteers will operate in three shifts to ensure uninterrupted 24-hour service.

Besides mobility support with wheelchairs and stretchers, volunteers will also:

  • Assist with OPD navigation
  • Coordinate treatment for unidentified or homeless patients
  • Provide dignified patient care, including hygiene, clothing, and medical attention

“This round-the-clock service will be a game-changer for both patients and hospital staff,” said Dr. Rakesh Sahay, Superintendent of OGH. “Timely access to stretchers and wheelchairs, especially at odd hours, can be life-saving.”

Salman Babu Khan of BSB HDT, who inaugurated the Help Desk along with hospital officials and Dr. Sahay, emphasized their mission: “By supporting organisations like HHF, we aim to strengthen public health infrastructure. Already, more than 80 community health workers are serving across 15 government hospitals in our first year.”
