Osmania University has issued a clarification following concerns regarding a circular dated March 13, 2025. The university has emphasized that the directive does not impose a blanket ban on student protests but is aimed at preventing disruptions in academic and administrative spaces.
In its statement, the university reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values and student rights, acknowledging the significant role of student movements, including the Telangana agitation, in shaping social causes. The administration clarified that the circular only restricts protests within college departments and administrative offices to ensure the smooth functioning of academic and institutional processes.
The need for such a directive arose after a series of incidents disrupted university operations. These included the unauthorised occupation of the principal’s room at Nizam College, disturbances at the University College of Arts and Social Sciences, and the forcible occupation of the Registrar’s office for over four hours. In one notable instance, students remained overnight at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, severely affecting administrative activities.
