Parcel loading begins from Medchal Rly Station

Hyderabad: With the whole Nation under lockdown, Indian Railways in general and South Central Railway, in particular, have been taking proactive steps in identifying routes and running both Time Table Parcel trains as well as Special Parcel Trains as per demand to various destinations across the country. These trains are being run so as to ensure that there is an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities across the length and breadth of the Country.

As part of this endeavor, the Medchal Station of Hyderabad Division has been opened for Parcel traffic so as to meet the demand of the local customers. Accordingly, efforts were made proactively to contact Local industries, interested groups, organizations, individuals and prospective loaders who were wanting to transport these commodities to various parts of the country.

All these marketing efforts have borne result with Parcel traffic being loaded for the first time from Medchal Station o­n Thursday. The Hyderabad Division has loaded 3746 packages weighing 46 tonnes of essential commodities (like Horlicks, Boost and Sensodyne Toothpaste among others) from Medchal to Chennai. Moreover, considering the importance of moving these goods, the trains are also being continuously monitored and moved at good speed to destination.

In this regard, it may be mentioned that generally parcel loading used to happen o­nly from Kacheguda station through Parcel Vans. Even during the lockdown since the introduction of Time Table Parcel trains o­n 08.04.20, the Hyderabad Division has loaded 95.35 tonnes of perishables (like lemons, etc) and 20.78 tonnes of hard parcels (including medical equipment, edible oils and Chilli powder among others) from Kacheguda, Nizamabad and Dharmabad . With the start of Parcel loading from Medchal now, there is scope to further meet needs of potential parcel customers of the Division.

Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR have complimented the Divisional Railway Manager of Hyderabad Division along with his Commercial team whose efforts has resulted in starting parcel loading from o­ne more station from the division. He has also instructed to further intensify the efforts so as to meet the needs of potential customers like seed companies and other logistic companies who may be facing difficulties during this and provide all required help to ensure transportation of their commodities by railways.
