The Supreme Court pulled up advocate M.L Sharma for making Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as respondents in a plea. The plea requested the court’s intervention into the Pegasus issue.
SC Bench Asks For Material To Support PIL Apart From Paper Cuttings
As per the latest reports, the bench comprising Chief Justice N.V Ramana and Justice Surya Kant summoned the advocate for filing the PIL. They said that he had mentioned certain people in the petition. And they can’t issue notices to them like that.
“Don’t try to take advantage of things, you have a defective memo of parties”, said the bench.

In the PIL, Sharma stated that the government was (reportedly) fabricating material in the computer through the Pegasus software. Following this, the bench replied that the this was not the way to file a PIL. They also asked him to present more material other than the paper cuttings.
However, Sharma argued that his petition was based on facts and not just on newspaper cuttings. He also agreed on making amends regarding the respondents in the petition.
SC May Issue Notice On Tuesday Regarding Pegasus Issue
During the hearing, senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued that the Pegasus snooping issue is a rogue technology and is illegal. He said that it infiltrates their lives via telephone and hears, watches everything.
He emphasized that it is an assault on human dignity and everyone’s privacy.
Following this, the top court noted that there are too many petitions regarding the same matter and they have to see which petitions to act on. They have asked the petitioners to serve a copy on the Union of India. The top court may issue a notice on Tuesday after hearing Centre’s side of the matter.
Sharma’s plea stated that the scandal involves issues that pose a threat to national security and judicial independence. In the plea, he requested a Supreme Court monitored probe into the matter.
