Pharma Companies Invest Over Rs 5,260 Crore in Hyderabad, Promising 12,490 Jobs

In a major boost to Hyderabad’s pharmaceutical sector, several prominent pharma companies have committed to significant investments in the city, with plans to establish pollution-free, green pharmaceutical plants.

The companies, including MSN Group, Laurus Labs, Gland Pharma, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Aurobindo Pharma, and Hetero Labs, have entered into Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Telangana Government to expand their operations and create thousands of new jobs.

The discussions, held on Friday at the Secretariat, were attended by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, along with representatives from the pharmaceutical companies, including MSN Laboratories, Laurus Labs, Gland Pharma, and others. Also present were TSIIC Chairperson Nirmala Jagga Reddy, CM’s Special Secretary Ajith Reddy, Industries Department Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and Vishnuvardhan Reddy.

As part of the agreements, the pharma companies will invest a total of around Rs 5,260 crore to set up manufacturing units and R&D centers, which will create approximately 12,490 jobs across various levels. The government has pledged to allocate land in Pharma City for the construction of these new facilities.

Key Projects and Job Creation:

  • MSN Laboratories will establish both a manufacturing unit and a research and development (R&D) center.
  • Laurus Labs and Aurobindo Pharma will focus on setting up formulation units.
  • Gland Pharma plans to open an R&D center and a plant for injectable drugs and drug substance manufacturing.
  • Dr Reddy’s Laboratories will set up a unit for injectable and biosimilar drugs.
  • Hetero Labs will develop a finished dose and injectable manufacturing plant.

The Chief Minister has directed officials to expedite land allotment for the projects, with the aim of starting construction within the next four months. The facilities in Pharma City will not only contribute to the city’s industrial growth but also offer significant employment opportunities in the region.

The new plants and R&D centers are expected to generate a wide range of jobs, spanning from manufacturing to research and development, along with ancillary roles in construction, logistics, and administration. This massive investment and job creation initiative is set to further cement Hyderabad’s position as a global pharmaceutical hub.
