Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Police, CCS, DD, Hyderabad City arrested three persons Manikya Vineeth, 25 years, event manager, Nizamabad; Vaggu Ganesh, 25 years Video Grapher, Manchiriyal district and Gollapalli Mahesh 27 years Video Grapher, Karimnagar district who are involved in extortion and blackmail by morphing the photographs of the complainant’s daughter.
According to details of the case, they received a complaint from a resident of Himayat Nagar, Hyderabad in which he stated that he received a call on 9th August, 2018 wherein the person threatened him that he is having nude photographs of his daughter and threatened that he will upload the photos on social media and demanded Rs. 5 Crores. He sent few nude morphed pics of his daughter to his mobile and also threatened that he will kill the whole family if money is not given. A case was registered by CCS and a special team was formed to nab the culprit.
The accused Manikya Vineeth, Vaggu Ganesh, Gollapalli Mahesh are working as event management professionals in Hyderabad. Accused Manikya Vineeth started his own M3 event management company and is organising events in Hyderabad. In 2015-16 Vineeth joined a Event Academy in for course in event management. During the course, he met Complainant’s daughter and became friends. During this period accused used to visit her and learnt that she comes from a wealthy family.
Later, he came into contact with both videographers i.e Vaggu Ganesh, Gollapalli Mahesh and three of them hatched a plan to blackmail the complainant’s father. They collected the photographs of the daughter from her Facebook profile and morphed her photographs. After this, Vineeth sent morphed pics to complainant phone through whatsapp, and called him over phone and demanded Rs. 5 crores and threatened him.
The Special team formed laid a trap and made the complainant to agree to pay 1cr and as initial amount accused asked him to pay 20 lacs. All the accused came to collect the amount and the special team apprehended the accused on Nizamabad highway. They had come on two motor cycles which were seized along with three cell phones.
The police suggested the general people to take precautions: Don’t store your personal photographs/videos on your cell phone. At least have proper security measures like password, pin number, pattern etc. Don’t post personal/ private information on social media. Please enable security settings on all social media to avoid the misuse of your content in internet. If any person receives any threatening messages, don’t succumb to fear, please contact us.
