Police performing with prejudice and biased sense: Vikas Narayan Rai

Terming the incidents like the protest at Qutub Minar as paid performance by the hindutva forces demanding change of the name of the historic edifice, Vikas Narayan Rai, former IPS officer said “The police machinery, to be honest, is not prepared well as it should be. It behaves with the same prejudice and biased mentality the people or protesters are carrying on the scene.”

While taking part in a debate over the performance of police titled “Whether police became communal?” On a news channel along with other participants, he said, “If the Police and intelligence is efficient enough, they should be aware of the people orchestrating such protests or preparing to hold the same. Generally all the riots orchestrated in the past were found as ‘paid performances’ where people used to employ to carry out violent activities.”

“There are lacunas in our law implementing system” he said adding that “Most of the laws were made to strengthen the authorities not the people. Infact, none of the laws are aimed at strengthening the people. You may talk about article 153 or 124 but you found none of them is coming to support the victims. They all are meant to support the authority sans any accountability towards rescuing the victims.”

While implementing the laws, he further said, the government must have to apply two things in mind. You have to be prepared mentally and physically to tackle the situation besides being fully equipped with a sense of accountability. However, our police machinery , to be honest, is not at all prepared this way. They too perform the duty with prejudice and biased sense on the spot the way the common people behave on the scene.

“What is lacking is the presence of a strong driving force to streamline the police and impart proper training to them. As long as they are not strong enough to deal with the situation, the void gap of efficiency will remain there,” he asserted.
