The political temperature in Hyderabad has risen several notches, with the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party sparring in the aftermath of the BJP national executive meeting, which took place in Hyderabad on Saturday and Sunday.
If the BJP decided to run its union Minister G Kishan Reddy, State BJP president, and MP Bandi Sanjay, and legislators Raghunandan Rao and Etela Rajendar launched broadsides against the TRS, the ruling party responded with equal vigor, with party working president and minister K T Rama Rao leading the charge. In their press conferences, Minister Jagadish Reddy and legislator Danam Nagendar wasted no time in responding to BJP criticism of the TRS.

The verbal brawl spread to the streets and social media platforms. While the BJP erected hundreds of banners and billboards welcoming delegates including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda, and other party stalwarts, the TRS took a different approach. It took over hoarding space from the airport to the twin cities’ main thoroughfares and filled all available hoardings and billboards on metro lines to highlight Telangana’s growth over the last eight years.
Indeed, hoardings on airport road with the bold statement “Welcome to Telangana” listing various unique achievements are sure to catch the attention of the hordes of BJP leaders arriving in the city from all over the country. There was also a virtual war on social media, with TRS cadres trending the hashtag #ByeBydModi and several leaders posting videos of Modi’s speech in parliament about Telangana.

The two-day National Executive meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will begin today in Hyderabad.
