Union Transport Minister and senior Congress leader Ponnam Prabhakar has questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to halt military operations against Pakistan, allegedly following a social media post by former U.S. President Donald Trump on platform X (formerly Twitter). He demanded that the Prime Minister explain to the nation why the ceasefire was declared abruptly without consulting Parliament or informing the public, especially when the Indian Army was actively engaged in Operation Sindhur in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
“After the Pahalgam incident, the entire country stood united, transcending political differences, and demanded strict action. Our armed forces responded with courage, but the operation was suddenly stopped following a post by Trump. Why?” Ponnam asked at a press briefing.
He further recalled the leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stating, “She said India can solve its problems and does not need foreign intervention. I am not attacking the government politically, I am speaking as an Indian.”

Ponnam also drew attention to Prime Minister Modi’s past criticism of Dr. Manmohan Singh during his tenure. “When our soldiers were killed earlier, Modi criticized the Congress leadership. But now, when something even more serious has happened, he remains silent,” he said.
Highlighting the Telangana Government’s support for the Indian Army, Ponnam noted that legislators had donated a month’s salary and organized rallies. “Even Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge supported the government’s steps. There was no political angle — the nation was united.”
Ponnam said both Rahul Gandhi and Kharge are now asking for an official discussion in Parliament regarding the extent of damage reportedly inflicted by Pakistan during the conflict. “Why won’t Modi speak? Within four hours of the ceasefire announcement, Pakistan violated it. What action was taken then?”
The Minister expressed sorrow for the families of those killed in the Pahalgam attack and emphasized that the Indian public deserves transparency. “Even AIMIM accepted that Pakistan was behind the attack. The country wants to know how much damage was done and how our soldiers were affected by an unplanned ceasefire,” he added.
