Power reforms bill should be withdrawn by Centre before another agitation: KCR

In a statement on Monday, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao demanded that the Centre withdraw the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 before farmers undertake another agitation.

As he addressed the state legislature, he launched a bitter attack on the Narendra Modi government for what he called a conspiracy to destroy agriculture.

If the power reforms bill is implemented, motors will have to be installed on agriculture pump sets, which will turn farmers into workers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was requested to withdraw the power reform bill by KCR, as Rao is commonly known.

He said: “Modiji, for God’s sake, withdraw the power reforms bill. You have the habit of bringing legislation and withdrawing it. You brought a land acquisition ordinance, but then you pulled it back. You brought three anti-farmer laws, but later retracted them and apologized.”

He advised taking back the power reforms bill before any trouble. Before people stand up and start another agitation, accept our demand with respect, he said.

He also pointed out that Telangana will not allow motors to be installed on agriculture pump sets and will continue to provide free electricity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to agriculture. According to him, 39 lakh farmer families will suffer if the Centre’s power reform is accepted.

KCR, who intends to launch a national party soon, criticized the Modi government for its wrong and undemocratic policies.

According to him, the BJP government is arrogant towards other parties and came to power with just 36% of the vote.

In this context, he was referring to the threats by BJP leaders to create Eknath Shindes in all states ruled by non-BJP parties. Tamil Nadu’s state BJP president gave the warning to Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, he said.

KCR noted that history has seen bigger despots such as Hitler, Mussolini, and Napoleon. They all fell and became part of history, he said, noting that the current government at the Centre has just 18 to 20 months left.

After selling off airports, ports, railways, and everything else, KCR claimed the government was now attempting to sell off agriculture and electricity.
