Predictions of heavy rainfall in Hyderabad, EVDM alerts the public

On Thursday, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Enforcement, Vigilance, and Disaster Management (EVDM) issued a heavy rain alert, urging commuters to plan accordingly.

As per a tweet from the official handle of the EVDM Director, there was a chance of moderate to heavy rainfall in the Serilingampally zone spreading to other parts of the city in 30 minutes.

It is suggested that citizens plan their commutes accordingly. “DRF teams have been alerted and are on the ground,” said the EVDM Director.

The weather alerts have also been issued by individual private weather observers on Twitter. A handle called Hyderabad Rains said: “It’s going to be a severe rain spell in north Hyderabad and beyond.”

In Quthbullapur and Kukatpally, 3.00mm of rain had fallen by 3 pm, according to Telangana State Development Planning Society.

As a result of heavy rainfall in the State, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar has put the administration on high alert.

Osman Sagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs have experienced an increase in water flow due to the increased flow of water into the Musi river, so the Hyderabad Metro Water Works and Sewerage Board was directed to monitor the water flow into the reservoirs in close coordination with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Relief camps have already been identified by the GHMC, and vulnerable people will be shifted there if needed.

To assess the situation, Mr. Somesh Kumar held a teleconference with officials from different departments and district collectors. As a result of the heavy rains, he directed the officials to prevent any casualties. He said the rain situation in the State is closely monitored by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, currently in New Delhi. In addition to causeways, low-lying areas, and breaches to roads and tanks, district collectors were tasked with remaining vigilant.
