Provide proof of overcharging corona patients: HC

Hyderabad: Telangana high court during a hearing of PIL said to Provide proof of overcharging of Private hospitals treating COVID patients, otherwise it would remain indistinct allegations against private Hospitals.

A PIL (public interest litigation) has been filed up in Telangana high court on July 1 against private, corporate, and teaching hospitals for rampant profiteering by treating COVID-19 patients in Hyderabad and other parts of the state.

The PIL filed by the general secretary of Patnam, D.G. Narasimha Rao.

The matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, the Division Bench was set up for it and which was comprised of Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy. They directed the counsel for the petitioner to prosecute the private, corporate, and teaching hospitals charged with collecting of exorbitant fees as they were necessary parties to the litigation. The Telangana High court also sadi petitioner to provide proof of such overcharging, otherwise, they would remain indistinct allegations.

The petitioner in his petition got several newspaper reports about how the corporate hospitals were collecting nearly Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 per day from COVID-19 patients.The Telangana government has headed the rates at RS 4000 to RS 9000 per day. The petitioner said that non of these hospitals were following the rates which are fixed by the government and are charging excessive rates.

The petitioner also states that several patients were running to private hospitals due to the unhygienic conditions in government hospitals. These private, corporate hospitals are taking advantage of this fact and overcharging COVID-19 patients.

After directing the counsel of petitioner the Bench has decided to postpone the case on the 10th of July.
