Puducherry Election Commission To Issue Fresh Notification On Civic Polls

In the latest update, the Puducherry State Election Commission has announced that they will be issuing a fresh notification for municipal elections. This comes after the Madras High Court on Tuesday allowed it to withdraw the previous notices for three phased polls on October 21, 25 and 28.

CJ Allows Fresh Notification 

As per the latest reports, the bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice PD Audikesavalu had recently allowed the State Election Commission to issue a fresh notice after the submission made by Additional Solicitor General, R Sankaranarayanan.

The court said that they hope that the anomalies will be removed. Following this, they expect the proposed notification to not carry any mistake so that the elections can be conducted as smoothly as possible.

The SEC further informed the court that it is the first municipal election that will be conducted on the basis of the 2011 census. It is also the first election held after the delimitation exercise conducted in June 2021. The State Election Commission is likely to issue the notification within five days.

Tamil Nadu State Election Commission Grants 4 Months To Complete Process

Recently, the Supreme Court on September 27 granted four months time to Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC) to complete the Urban Local Bodies election in the state.The SEC has sought time till April 2022 for carrying out the preparatory works to complete the whole process.

A bench of including the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hima Kohli rejected the SEC’s plea that seeked seven months time to complete the process. The bench has further directed the panel to complete the process within four months.

This comes after TNSEC filed its application in a matter filed by S Shankar regarding the polls. It sought direction from the SC for the extension of seven months from September 15.
