Rain brings relief from heat in Hyderabad

Hyderabad came to a grinding halt on Thursday as heavy rains lashed the city. According to the Met Department, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds occurred in several parts of the state. The rains and thunderstorm led to massive traffic snarls in places such as Secunderabad, Begumpet, Khairatabad, Punjagutta, etc.

Heavier spells of rain were reported from the outskirts of the city, with Shadnagar recording 42 mm of rainfall and Patancheru 53.5 mm.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials were pressed into service and asked to stay alert in light of thundershowers in parts of Gachibowli, Patancheru, Serilingampally and Khairatabad. Barricading was provided at all excavated trenches in the city to prevent any road accidents or pedestrian woes.

Indian Meteorological Department officials said light to moderate rain showers were likely to occur on Friday as well. The mercury was expected to remain at 40 degrees Celsius, with no decrease expected in the minimum temperature as well.
