Rajendranagar received highest 91.7 mm rainfall in last 24 hour

As the wise man once said, “Every cloud has a silver lining” no rains have been reported anywhere from the city except Bahadurpura since Tuesday morning till 1.00 pm. This comes after 48 hours of light to moderate rains that hit the city and suburban areas hard bringing the normal life to complete standstill.

Except Bahadurpura, more precisely Suleman Nagar area received 4.0 mm rainfall on Tuesday morning while Automated Weather Stations (AWSs) in other 16 out of 17 locations report no showers upto 1.00 pm.

However, the highest rainfall has been recorded in the Rajendranagar area under GHMC limits of Rangareddy that received 91.7 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours.

On Monday, the Rajendranagar circle witnessed heavy rainfall since morning. Four locations in Rajendranagar Circle No.11 such as Rajendranagar, Shivrapally, Mailardevpally and Attapur recorded excessive rains bringing the normal life to standstill. While Rajenranagar witnessed 110.8 mm rainfall on Monday, Shivrampally area recorded 96.5 mm rainfall followed by Mailardevpally 59mm and Attapur 57.8mm showers till 8.00 pm.

During the last 24 hours i.e. since Monday morning the entire Telangana state received an average rainfall of 50.6 mm as against the normal 4.5 mm during the last 24 hours. During this period, highest rainfall of 228.9 mm was recorded at Jakranpally, Nizamabad district besides extremely heavy rainfall of 204.4mm in the same district.

Other areas that also witnessed very heavy rainfall are Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Medak, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Khammam districts where 115.6 to 204.4mm downpour was reported.

According to official statistics, all the areas in the state except Kumram Bheem, Jangaonm Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy and Jogulamba Gadwal districts, saw a heavy rainfall of 64.5 to 115.5mm during the same period.

However, over the state moderate rainfall of 15.6 to 64.4 mm has been recorded except Wanaparthy and Jogulamba Gadwal districts. Few of the places in the state received light rainfall of 2.5 to 15mm.

During the last four months the state cumulative rainfall average, being recorded from June 1 to September 28, has narrowed down to 1007.6 mm as against the normal 711.7mm with 42 percent deviation.

However, officials warned that the impact of cyclone ‘Gulab’ had not yet subsided and predicted more rains in the days to come that may cause more inconvenience to the people.
