Ramesh Kumar once again assumed charge of APSEC

Hyderabad: Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar once again assumed the charge as Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kumar asserted that the Election Commission is an independent constitutional body and working beyond the hatreds. He hoped to receive support from the government as in the past.

It is learned that the AP government earlier issued a GOs last Thursday re-appointing him as State Election Commissioner as per the High Court orders. He had postponed the local bodies elections in wake of the corona however, the state government issued an ordinance shortening SEC’s tenure in the name of ‘reforms’.

He was replaced by retired Judge Justice Kanagaraj from Tamil Nadu. With this, Kumar approached the court however the Andhra Pradesh High court has reinstated him but the state government has not implemented again Mr Prasad approached the HC and filed a contempt petition against the state Government. The Court directed him to approach the Governor and represent the same, following the HC direction Prasad called on Governor Vishwabhushan Harichandan in Raj Bhawan on 20 July, who has dashed a letter to the state government asking to follow the court orders by reinstating him in the same place.

The state also approached the apex court in this issue seeking to stay on the HC contempt orders, however, the biggest court of the Country has turned it down and it has given Ramesh Kumar a week to file an affidavit about the implementation of high court orders.

Ramesh Kumar said that he assumed the charge in Hyderabad only on Friday as per the governor’s notification. He said he had informed the collectors and concerned authorities that he has been reinstated by the state government in the same place. He said that he came to the office in Vijayawada today to perform his duties.
