The ceremonial opening of the refurbished Nizam’s wardrobe, which includes an extraordinary collection of about 200 pairs of opulent royal shoes, these remarkable relics are currently on exhibit at the Nizam’s Museum, popularly known as the ‘Purani Haveli Museum.’
The Refurbished Walk-in closet: A recent refurbishment has restored the walk-in closet to its previous splendor, offering tourists an enthralling peek into Hyderabad’s aristocratic legacy from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century.
The Exhibition: The exhibition features not just beautiful footwear but also an assortment of garments and textiles, each with a rich history that sheds light on the Nizams of Hyderabad’s lavish lifestyle and fashion preferences. The upper deck of the teak wardrobe has a one-of-a-kind collection of footwear, including Nizam VI, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan’s polo shoes. Meanwhile, the lower deck has beautiful royal gowns originally worn by the Nizam and his family, as well as royal accessories and Mir Mahbub Ali Khan’s textile bundles.
Nizam’s Remarkable Wardrobe: The Nizam was famous for never wearing the same outfit twice; once worn, they were given away. As a result, no genuine record of his outfit exists. To compensate, the rebuilt wardrobe features numerous outfits used by Hyderabad men, women, and children.
About the Nizam’s Museum:The Purani Haveli Museum, which contains the Nizam’s Museum, is made up of more than 10 structures. The main structure houses the Nizam’s museum and is flanked by two long wings that run parallel to one other. The wardrobe itself has over 100 almirahs and even a hand-operated elevator for gaining access to different areas.
The unveiling of the lavish royal shoe collection and the restoration of the Nizam’s walk-in wardrobe provide an enthralling journey into the opulent lifestyle and fashion choices of Hyderabad’s Nizams, providing a unique glimpse into the city’s rich heritage during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
