Rs 55 cr, Rs 3.32 cr worth liquor seized: CEO

Hyderabad: CEO Rajat Kumar today said that the Election Commission has focused on checking the irregularities with regard to conducting the Assembly polls in Telangana on Dec 7. Talking to press persons at Secretariat here he informed that the police personnel have seized illegal money and liquor including Rs 55 cr and 3.32 cr worth liquor so far during checkups at various places as poll code in force across the state. At district and state borders we are remaining extra vigilant to check the illegal flow of money and liquor and any other items that will induce the people he added. He said that the CEO wing is informing to the EC about the poll related arrangements and issues.

The EC will hold a video conference on Saturday at 3 pm with officials concerned on the poll related issues. In the meeting the EC will talk about functioning of EVMs, VVPATS, staff required for conducting the polls, deployment of police force for security, law and order and arrangements and readiness of the polling booths and voter participation in the electioneering.

The Election Commission is vigilant of the irregularities as the party may try to lure the people using money and liquor and other gifts he said. The EC has directed the district collectors and DEOs to ensure that the polls are conducted in a hassle free manner by providing adequate facilities. The EC has instructed the police top brass and the SPs in the districts to maintain law and order and put a tab on malicious campaign as also election expenditure he said. Rajat Kumar also warned that those violating the poll code norms will be dealt with seriously. (NSS)
