Russia To Extend Space Station Participation Amidst Souring Relationship With US: NASA

As per the latest reports, in spite of the souring connection between Russia and the US over the conflict in Ukraine, Moscow is as yet considering expanding its support on the International Space Station (ISS) through 2030, as per NASA.

The US space organization and Russia’s state space company Roscosmos have been the two biggest accomplices on the ISS throughout the previous thirty years. The two associations have consented to cooperate on the ISS through 2024, yet on December 31, 2021, the Joe Biden organization focused on broadening the ISS activities through 2030. Russia has not officially consented to the expansion yet.

As per the NASA’s spending plan appraises, the ISS, sent off in 1998, will be “de-circled” in January 2031. In January, before the Ukraine war started, CEO of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said that Roscosmos and NASA are in chats on broadening the activity of the ISS until 2030.

However, Russia’s attack of Ukraine, starting February 24, impacted space collaboration between the two nations and Roscosmos’ support in the expansion began to appear to be impossible.

In light of the conflict, the US endorsed Russia’s significant ventures, which set off shock from the Roscosmos chief.

On Twitter, Rogozin conveyed wild intimidations about the fate of the ISS, intimating that the station could come crashing down on the US assuming Russia pulled out rashly from the program. He has likewise alluded to returning to the organization with the US considering the authorizations.

However, Roscosmos has clearly not given a hard “no” on the augmentation and may even proceed with it, the report said.
