The Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad will celebrate ‘International Museum Week’ from May 16th to 21st. A number of events will be held to celebrate the occasion.
Various cultural activities and competitions will be held at the museum for the general public.
Dr A Nagender Reddy, Director of Salar Jung Museum, told in a press conference that the Union Culture Ministry will celebrate the International Museum Day on 18th May under the theme “The Power of Museums”.
He pointed out that museums are not only stores of cultural heritage, they are also educational centres that enrich the visitors’ knowledge of history, culture, and traditions of bygone eras.
During the specified days, visitors and participants can enter for free. The week-long celebration includes exhibition displays, painting contests, a photography contest with a cash prize, and lectures on art conservation by prominent industry figures.
Bidri art has been given special attention, with two days devoted to various exhibitions and engagements.

In celebration of 75 years of Indian independence, 75 items will be on display. During this period, differently-abled and orphan students are welcome to visit the museum and activities have been arranged to train schoolchildren in arts, crafts, drawing, etc.
There will also be a special exhibition of 75 artists from the Hyderabad Art Society.
As part of the celebrations of the International Museum Week, cash prizes will also be awarded to winners of photography competitions.
Additionally, a lecture on “Humour in European Art” and a webinar on “Preventive Conservation” will be held, as well as performances by Telangana folk artists (under the auspices of the ICCR Program Division).
Ramana Reddy, president of the Hyderabad Art Society, Anuradha Reddy, president of the Photo Club, Janardha Reddy, curator Khusum, consultant M. Veerendra, and other officials were in attendance.
