Sanjay Dutt Open to More Romance Dramas, Eyes Film Like 1991 Hit “Saajan”

Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt has expressed his interest in exploring more romance dramas, citing his 1991 hit “Saajan” as a film he would love to revisit. With over four decades in the industry, Dutt, known for his diverse roles, is eager to take on more romantic roles if he encounters a compelling script.

Speaking at the launch of the song “Big Bull” from his upcoming film “Double iSmart,” Dutt reflected on his past work and future aspirations. He noted, “Will do romance if any good film comes. My generation worked for mass cinema, so we are massy heroes. I did ‘Saajan’ one time. It was a good film with good songs. I can do one more ‘Saajan’ (like film).” In “Saajan,” directed by Lawrence D’Souza, Dutt played a sensitive poet alongside Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan. The film remains a standout in his otherwise action-centric filmography.

Despite his interest in romance dramas, Dutt continues to thrive in action-packed roles. The 65-year-old actor is currently seen as the antagonist in the Telugu film “Double iSmart,” directed by Jagannadh Puri and starring Ram Pothineni. Dutt’s recent roles in Vijay’s “Leo” (2023) and “KGF: Chapter 2” (2022) further cement his reputation for compelling negative characters.

Dutt elaborated on his preference for negative roles, stating, “Negative is a good space to be in. One can do a lot. I get to do a lot of action. It’s good that there is something to do for actors after so many films.”

“Double iSmart” is the sequel to the 2019 sci-fi action film “iSmart Shankar,” also directed by Jagannadh. The film, which will hit theaters on August 15, features a storyline about an assassin who helps the police when a slain cop’s memories are transferred to his brain. Backed by Puri Connects, the film will be released in multiple languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Dutt’s comments about returning to romance dramas and his ongoing engagement with high-octane action films reflect his dynamic career and adaptability in the ever-evolving landscape of Bollywood.
