Saudi Imposes Institutional Quarantine for Inbound Travelers Ahead of Opening Borders

Amidst the rising case of Covid 19, Saudi Arabia has decided to impose institutional quarantine for the inbound travellers from May 20.

Vaccinated People Are Excluded From Institutional Quarantine 

The Ministry of Interior said on Monday that the passengers who will be coming from other countries are not included in the travel suspension. However, some categories of passengers will be excluded from the quarantine. It includes citizens, their spouses and children. Along with the passengers who are vaccinated against Covid 19 and other official delegations like diplomats.

The ones who are excluded from institutional quarantine except the ones who are Covid 19 vaccinated, will have to apply for a house quarantine along with a valid health insurance policy to cover the risks of the pandemic virus. This decision comes after the Ministry made efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus as per the recommendations of competent heath authorities.

Saudi Arabia To Open Borders From May 17 

As per the latest reports, Saudi Arabia will be opening up the land, sea and air borders from May 17. Citizens who have received at least one shot of the Covid 19 vaccine in the past two weeks, the ones who are fully vaccinated, recovered from Covid 19 in the past six months and the one who are under 19 will be allowed to travel.

Saudi citizens have been largely been banned from traveling since March 2020 when it was only of the first countries to ban in and out travel for citizens to avoid the spread of Covid 19. Reports suggest that more than 9 million Covid vaccination doses have been administered so far over a population of 34 million.

Meanwhile, Saudi registered a total 986 fresh cases of Covid 19 and pushed the tally to 427,370. The recoveries stand at 410,816 and the death toll stands at 7,085.
