Hyderabad: In a bizarre incident in Kavadiguda here today, a Class VII student Mahesh committed suicide by hanging due to alleged harassment by his school management.
The heart-broken parents and relatives of Mahesh staged a dharna in front of the Little Flower School, where Mahesh was studying. They alleged that Mahesh took to the extreme step due to harassment by the school management. They demanded that the police register an abetment case and get the school management punished.
Meanwhile, members of Parents Association also participated in the dharna alleging that private schools stepped up their excesses in the Telangana State. The schools’ managements were collecting hefty fees as they liked, they said. They alleged that the students were suffering silently and skipping schools due to the harassment of the school managements, which were coercing children for payment of fees. When the parents were questioning the students as to why they were not going to school, were resorting to suicides, they alleged.
The parents’ association members alleged that the police, instead of helping victims, were supporting school managements for their monthly mamools. They said the condition of girl students was pathetic due to scanty infrastructure. They also bemoaned that the authorities of Education Department and the police were not initiating action against the erring school managements even though atrocities were being committed against students. They warned that they will intensify agitation if the government failed to check the excesses of private school managements in Hyderabad city. (NSS)
