In a major move, the Telangana government has demolished the eastside Bahubali gate of the state Secretariat as part of an ongoing redevelopment project. The demolition, carried out on Sunday, marks the beginning of a comprehensive plan to revamp the Secretariat’s infrastructure, which is expected to involve significant changes to its gates, roads, and surrounding areas.
The ₹3 crore redevelopment plan includes the construction of a new gate at the north-east side of the Secretariat, with existing grills being removed to make way for the new structure. The project also aims to improve the overall aesthetic appeal and accessibility of the complex. The Bahubali gate, which was once used by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for entering the Secretariat, had been closed by the current government as part of the ongoing changes.
In addition to the gate modifications, the government is setting up a statue of *Telangana Talli*, the state’s symbolic mother figure, near the new north-east entrance. A new lawn area and foundation will also be developed to create a more welcoming path leading to the Secretariat’s main gates.

As part of the redevelopment, the government is also constructing a new road linking the south-east and north-east gates, which will improve traffic flow and access to the Secretariat. These changes are aimed at enhancing both the functionality and visual appeal of the complex, aligning with the government’s broader vision of modernization and urban development.
The demolition of the Bahubali gate and the planned upgrades reflect the government’s commitment to improving public spaces and providing a more organized environment for government operations.
