The government of Telangana has informed the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, which has a total of 31,745 water connections, that it will offer free drinking water.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board will receive 20,000 litres of free drinking water per month, according to a statement from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department. From February 1, the programme will apply to all domestic slum categories, domestic households, and multi-story buildings.
According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, demand arrears of Rs 34.17 crore have been raised to December 2021, and the bill for the month of January shall be paid to HMWSSB by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB). Despite the government’s increased spending, chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao decided to implement the free drinking water scheme in cantonment for the benefit of underprivileged families, according to Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav.

Water Supply Problem Faced By Residents of Secunderabad Cantonment
Although summer has not yet begun, people in Secunderabad Cantonment are already experiencing drinking water shortages and delays in several places.
Over 150 residential colonies in eight SCB wards receive potable water once every three or four days. The Cantonment Board is a group of people that are in charge of the cantonment “We have major water problems every summer.” Despite our numerous requests, SCB officials do not remedy the situation,” stated V Panduranga Reddy, a retired Bowenpally headmaster.
The SCB has also angered resident welfare organisations. Despite investing lakhs of rupees on repairs and upkeep of the water delivery network, RWAs claim that numerous colonies are still without adequate water supply.
Rakesh Sharma, a member of the RWA, expressed concern about the unplanned water delivery even before summer arrived. He requested that SCB officials at the very least send people SMS alerts.
Despite the existence of a summer action plan that includes repairing damaged water lines, undertaking borewell repairs, hiring more tankers, and laying sanctioned water lines, Secunderabad Cantonment Board ward members claim that little has been done.
It is a great initiative taken by the Government of Telangana to provide a free drinking water supply to the residents of Secunderabad cantonment.
