Self Prescribed Medicines For Covid 19 and Excessive Nutrition Can Damage Liver

The rising number in the active Covid 19 cases has not only shaken the healthcare system in the country but also led to many self-prescribed treatments. However, the self-prescribed can harm the liver of the person taking it.

Expert Warn Against Self-Prescribed Treatment Against Covid 19 

As per the latest reports, Dr N.Y Prashanth Chandra, Consultant-Internal Medicine, Gleneagles Global Hospitals said that use of self-prescribed medicines is practice that a lot of individuals are doing against the Covid 19 medicine. However, the self-prescribed medicines can only fight against the bacteria and not necessarily the virus.

On the eve of World Liver Day on April 19, Dr Chandra said that the Covid 19 is caused by a virus. So the antibiotics don’t actually work and should not be used as means to avoid or treat Covid 19. This is a fundamental difference and people must know it before they take antibiotics.

Dr Anusha Karra, Internal Medicine Western Plains Hospital, Dodge City also said that some physicians may use antibiotics as a secondary treatment to kill any bacterial infections which could together cause Covid 19.

She said that antibiotic medicines should only be used under the supervision of a physician. Otherwise, using antibiotics as immunity boosters can cause arrhythmias and further complicate health conditions.

Excessive Good Food Is Also A Bad Idea 

As per Dr Anitha Reddy, a gastroenterologist at the SLG hospitals said that too much consumption of good food can also lead to health complications. She said that excessive consumption of immunity boosters like concoctions made of turmeric or methi or any sort of Vitamin D and zinc providing food may also do more harm than good.

Dr Reddy said that disproportionate consumption of such food could lead of thinning of blood and further hamper the functioning of the liver.
Head of Medical Services, Aware Gleneagles Global Hospitals, Dr Sukesh Kumar also advised people to reach out to a healthcare provider for instructions on the symptoms. They must also stay at home for 14 days and monitor their health.
