Shivani Rajasekhar Joins Madhavan’s Biopic ‘GDN’; Hopes Rise for Breakthrough Role

Actress Shivani Rajasekhar, daughter of veteran actors Dr. Rajasekhar and Jeevitha, is all set to play a significant role in the upcoming Tamil biopic GDN, starring R. Madhavan. The film, directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, is based on the life and legacy of renowned inventor and engineer G.D. Naidu, often referred to as the “Edison of India.”

According to sources close to the production, Shivani is currently undergoing preparation for her character and is expected to join the film’s sets in June. While her role is being kept under wraps, insiders describe it as “crucial” to the film’s narrative, suggesting that it could mark a turning point in her acting career.

Shivani’s recent filmography includes Kotabommali PS, where she portrayed a police constable. Although the film didn’t fare well at the box office, critics appreciated her performance for its emotional depth and sincerity. She also played a lead role in the romantic drama Vidya Vasula Aham, which premiered on the Aha OTT platform earlier this year.

Despite having appeared in a handful of Telugu and Tamil films, Shivani is yet to achieve a major commercial breakthrough. Industry analysts believe that her role in GDN could open new doors for her, especially given the ambitious nature of the biopic and its focus on an iconic historical figure.

“Shivani has the screen presence and the legacy behind her,” a source from the film’s production team commented. “With the right script and direction, GDN might just be the film that showcases her full potential to a wider audience.”

The film’s lead actor, R. Madhavan, has previously garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of historical and scientific personalities, most notably in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. With GDN, expectations are high for another performance of substance and impact.

GDN is being positioned as a major Tamil release and is expected to explore the multi-faceted life of G.D. Naidu — a pioneer in industrial innovation, education, and public transportation in South India. The film aims to spotlight Naidu’s remarkable achievements and contributions, many of which remain lesser known to the public today.

More details about the cast and release schedule are expected to be announced soon. For Shivani Rajasekhar, all eyes will now be on how she leverages this opportunity to carve a distinct identity in the competitive South Indian film industry.
