Shortage of Medical Staff and Poor Sanitation Plague MGM Hospital in Warangal

MGM Hospital in Warangal, the largest medical facility in the region, is grappling with severe shortages of doctors and paramedical staff, despite being equipped with advanced medical devices. The hospital, which attracts patients from Maharashtra and Odisha, particularly surged with visitors during the Covid-19 pandemic. On a daily basis, between 2,000 and 3,500 patients from as far as Karimnagar, Adilabad, and surrounding areas, including Warangal itself, seek medical attention here.

However, the hospital is facing significant issues. It is reportedly lacking in proper sanitation, and despite receiving state-of-the-art medical equipment, much of it remains in disrepair. The facility also suffers from inadequate stocks of essential medicines.

Recently, District Collector D Satya Sharada conducted an inspection of the hospital and emphasized the urgent need for improvements in its operations and maintenance. The situation was further highlighted by a disturbing incident: two days ago, a newborn baby was discovered partially consumed by stray dogs on the hospital grounds.

The baby was found by police officers stationed at a nearby outpost who intervened to drive the dogs away. The condition of the baby—whether alive or deceased—and the circumstances leading to the discovery are currently under investigation. Authorities are examining CCTV footage to determine how the newborn came to be abandoned at the hospital.

The incident has caused alarm among patients and underscores the broader issues of mismanagement and inadequate facilities at MGM Hospital. The ongoing investigation and the need for enhanced hospital services remain critical concerns for the community.
