As per the latest reports, the South Korean Justice Ministery has announced on Tuesday that they have come up with a law which would allow capable singles to become eligible for full adoptions.
Capable Singles Above 25 May Be Able To Adopt Children
The ministry said that it plans to submit the bill to revise the current civil law to allow the singles of age 25 years and above who are capable of supporting the well-being of an adopted child to become fully eligible to fully adopt children.
As per the current law, full adoptions, which cuts all the legal ties with the birth parents of the children, are allowed only for the married couples. And the singles can only seek regular adoptions.
The ministry also said that they plan to strengthen the court to review the process of whether to allow fully adoptions by adding new review criteria like how much child rearing time the potential parents would be able to give to the child and the post-adoption child care environments.
It also explained that the revision was sought in order to address concerns that the current complete adoption ban for the single could infringe upon the freedom and equality rights of singles hoping to have a family without a partner.
