Sixteen Injured by Electric Shock at Farmhouse Pool in Hyderabad

A leisurely outing turned into a nightmare for three families when sixteen people suffered electric shocks while swimming in a pool at a farmhouse in Jalpally, Pahadishareef. The incident underscores the growing trend of city dwellers seeking retreats at farmhouses around Hyderabad, raising concerns about safety standards at these popular getaways.

The mishap occurred when a group of 56 people from Aghapura in the old city visited the farmhouse for a recreational day out. In the evening, sixteen guests, including six women, five children, and three men, entered the swimming pool to swim and play water games.

According to police reports, within seconds of entering the water, all sixteen individuals were struck by an electrical current that had entered the pool. The condition of two men, Parvez (19) and Mohd Imtiaz (22), is reported to be critical as they were electrocuted for approximately two minutes.

Preliminary investigations suggest that faulty wiring for the pool lights caused the accident. It is suspected that a live electric wire became compromised within the pool, leading to the electrocution. The police are actively investigating the case to determine the exact cause and to identify any lapses in safety protocols at the farmhouse.

This incident highlights the growing popularity of farmhouses as getaway spots for families and groups looking for a break from urban life. Hyderabad has seen a surge in such outings, with many families opting for the privacy and space offered by farmhouses over conventional resorts or public recreational areas. However, the incident at Jalpally raises serious concerns about the safety standards and maintenance practices at these facilities.

Authorities are being urged to enforce stricter regulations and conduct regular safety inspections at farmhouses to prevent such tragedies in the future. The need for better safety measures is evident, as the farmhouse trend continues to attract more visitors seeking a respite from the bustling city life.

As the investigation continues, the families affected by the incident are calling for accountability and improved safety measures to ensure that their ordeal is not repeated elsewhere. The incident serves as a grim reminder that while farmhouses offer an appealing retreat, ensuring the safety of guests must be a top priority.
