“Some are asking me if Hyderabad can be renamed to Bhagyanagar, why not?”- Adityanath in GHMC rally

Under the campaigns initiated ahead of the GHMC elections scheduled to be held on December 1st, BJP brought in UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to boost the party’s vote bank through rallies.

On Saturday, Adityanath claimed during his address to the people of Kukatpally in a road show that only BJP had the capability and power to transform Hyderabad into a “Bhagya nagar”, stressing on the former name of the Telangana capital.

In the campaign for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Cooperation polls, Adityanath slammed the ruling TRS party and the AIMIM and accused them of withholding the development of the city for their own political benefits.

Calling the leaders of MIM as “descendants of Nizam”, he stated that they need to be taught a “fitting lesson” for “becoming obstacles for development” of Hyderabad, while also adding, “The entire area on the banks of Musi river in the south of Hyderabad has been under encroachment of the MIM.”

Adityanath remained on his earlier stance of Hyderabad’s name changing to “Bhagyanagar” for good after BJP comes into power, like he did for the Muslim-origin names of other cities where he made Faizabad into Ayodhya and Allahabad got changed to Prayagraj.

The UP CM questioned, “Some people were asking me if Hyderabad can be renamed as Bhagyanagar. Why not?…Why can’t Hyderabad be renamed as Bhagyanagar?”

He further termed the current government and the major opposition parties as the “rule of Naya Nizam” and called for its riddance.

In a bid to outshine the present government by diverting the minds of the citizens, Adityanath said that the TRS hasn’t been doing anything for the “development and basic amenities of the people”. He claimed that all residents, be it a businessman or a common person, was disappointed with the government.

Trying to give his own example of Uttar Pradesh where he allegedly built houses for 30 lakh people of his state, Adityanath demanded to get enlightened on the number of houses constructed by the government under the rule of TRS within the past 6 years in Telangana.

He further claimed that the party was sending out blueprints of promises despite not being able to fulfill the ones it had made in its previous elections.

Adityanath also accused the government of distributing only cash as flood relief to the victims instead of directly depositing it in citizens’ bank accounts as TRS allegedly only wanted to fill the pockets of its own leaders.

Praising the Centre’s acts under the Modi leadership, he said, “It (NDA government) had done away with Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. The centuries old issue of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya was resolved peacefully and now, we are constructing the temple.”

Expressing his delight over the response generated to his presence in the campaign, the UP Chief Minister requested the city to aid BJP in transforming Hyderabad into Bhagyanagar (wealthy city), name-wise as well as in the literal form.

However, KCR appealed to the voters to “save the city” from “outsiders” while many politicians also called BJP’s intention as the one to ignite Hindu-Muslim divisions in the city which has largely remained peaceful in those arenas.
