South Central Railway cancels several MMTS train services today

The South Central Railway (SCR) cancelled several MMTS train services today due to operational reasons.

Lingampally – Hyderabad, Hyderabad – Lingampalli, Falaknuma – Lingampalli, Lingampalli – Falaknuma, Falaknuma – Hyderabad and Falaknuma – Ramachandrapuram are among the services that have been cancelled.

The SCR has requested that rail users take note of this and plan their travel accordingly.

Railway all set to introduce 40 MMTS services

The South Central Railway (SCR) zone is set to launch 40 new Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) services in new routes, boosting public transportation in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

According to sources, new MMTS trains will be introduced under MMTS Phase-II on the Secunderabad-Medchal route via Bollaram and the Faluknama-Umdanagar route. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to launch them on April 8.

Over 1.5 lakh commuters per day will be able to use these services once the Secunderabad-Medchal section is open to passengers. Due to the lack of MMTS services, passengers were forced to rely on buses, auto-rickshaws, and private vehicles on a daily basis.

In the Union Budget, the Centre has allocated Rs 600 crore for MMTS Phase-II works. The project was sanctioned in 2012-13 at a cost of Rs 817 crore. Currently, work is being done on two more sections: Sanath Nagar to Moula Ali doubling with electrification and Moula Ali – Malkajgiri – Sitafalmandi doubling with electrification. Now, the cost of the MMTS Phase-II project has been revised to over Rs 1,100 crore.

Currently, 86 services are in operation to meet the twin cities’ suburban travel needs on a daily basis. MMTS services cover a stretch of 50 km from Falaknuma to Ramachandrapuram via Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Begumpet, Lingampally and Tellapur, among others. There is also a demand for the extension of MMTS services to Shankarpalli.
