South Korea, Japan Hold Talks Over Islets, Radioactive Waster Water

As per the latest updates, the diplomats from South Korea and Japan held working-level discussions in Seoul to talk about respective relations, including the sea review close to questioned islets and arrival of radioactive waste water, into the sea from Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Lee Sang-ryol, Director-General for Asian and Pacific Affairs at the South Korean Foreign Ministry, met in Seoul with his Japanese partner Takehiro Funakosh on Thursday.

They reaffirmed views that the two nations need to quickly work on reciprocal ties, trading feelings on issues of common worries, for example, the trading of staff.

With respect to sea review led by South Korea in its eastern waters close to the contested islets of Dokdo, called Takeshima in Japan, Lee focused on that Dokdo is the innate South Korean domain by and large, geologically and by worldwide regulation.

Lee let the Japanese diplomat know that the South Korean government can not acknowledge any issue raised by the Japanese side over Seoul’s genuine movement done as per the global regulation and domestic regulations.

With pertinent government authorities in participation, the different sides essentially held a preparation and a back and forth discussion over the security of Japan’s arrangement to dump the radioactive waste water into the Pacific Ocean. While communicating its interests about the arrangement, South Korea asked the Japanese side to go to capable lengths that are protected according to logical point of view and agree with worldwide regulations and principles.

The different sides consented to proceed with correspondence and interviews on the issue. The Japanese government wanted to deliver almost 1.25 million tons of nuclear power plant from Fukushima atomic plant into the sea traversing a long time from 2023.
