Spain Opens Tourism Sector for the World With Negative Test Results or Vaccination Certificates

After more than a year of being shut, Spain on Monday announced that they will be ending restrictions on travellers from outside the European Union and the Schengen area. However, the travellers will have to provide a certificate for their vaccination procedure.

Spain In The Position To Regain World Tourism Leadership, Confirms MoH

As per the latest reports, Spain’s Minister of Health Carolina Darias took to Twitter to announce that Spain is now ready to regain their world tourism leadership and is a safe destination. Darias further said that the excellent vaccination data brings them closer to normality every day.

Under the new rules, people travelling from countries other than the risk countries will access quick control with the QR code obtained through the SpTH (Spain Travel Health). People with the EU Covid Digital Certificate which will be in force from July 1, 2021 will also have access to the QR code.

People travelling to Spain from risk countries will have a undergo a random control. This would include their place of origin and the level of incidence which the government will decide. In the validation of the vaccination certificate, Spain will only accept the vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), as well as those recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

EMA covers Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson, and the World Health Organization adds China’s Sinopharm and Sinovac to the list. Unvaccinated minors aged 6 or under who are traveling with adults will also be allowed entry.

Non-Vaccinated People To Enter Only With Negative Test Results 

The decision comes after Spain earlier decided to lift restrictions for the travellers from the United Kingdom from May 24.

For unvaccinated visitors from the European Union will be able to enter Spain only with a negative antigen test instead of the negative PCR test. At the same time, cruise ships will also be allowed to dock at the Spanish ports.
