Special drive against usage of plastic bag

Hyderabad: As a part of International Plastic Bag free Day on July 3, the GHMC is planning in a big way to create awareness campaign.

Special drives would be launched against the usage of plastic bags as people are throwing plastic waste materials in Nalas, Lakes, etc., with which mosquito menace is also increasing a lot, said GHMC commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy.

To curb both the menace, an action plan has been prepared keeping in view of the Rainy season also to involve all the Government heads of the Departments for taking up and conducting awareness campaign, he said.

In this connection the Commissioner held a review meeting with the officials of Entomology, Transport, and Urban Health wings at GHMC Head Office today in which Additional Commissioners MS. Sikta Patnaik, Bhaskara Chary, DEO Hyderabad, City School Managements, authorities, ITC, WOW members have attended the meeting.
While addressing the officials Reddy said that help of about 10 lakhs students studying in private schools would be taken to create awareness and to highlight the ill effects of plastic waste and health hazards due to mosquito menace.

The Commissioner directed the officials to involve 45,000 SHGs where 4.5 lakhs women are available where the officials can avail their services to utilize for the above said purpose and all the DCs, AMOHs, HODs must play a vital role duly coordinating with all the members to make the special drive and a campaign cent percent success and also to highlight the mosquito app for better results.(NSS)
