Hyderabad: AICC Spokesperson Dr. Sravan Dasoju alleged that the sons of the soil are being fraudulently subjected to gross injustice in medical seats defeating the very purpose of formation of Telangana State, which are being dubiously allocated to Andhra students.
Therefore the senior Congress party leader demands a thorough investigation into the matter and asks for cancellation of illegal allotment of seats under the unreserved category. He further asks the government to remove the private agency which is involved in the admission process and sought the government’s intervention in implementing the original rules set for BC reservation in allotment of medical seats.
“I am deeply pained to know that our sons of the soil, the Telangana Students are being fraudulently subjected to gross injustice in medical seats by defeating the very purpose of Telangana Formation as he unreserved category seats being dubiously allocated to Andhra students by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS). Ironically, the Telangana state Government seems to be blind to such fraudulent activity, reasons better known to them”, Dr. Sravan said in an open letter written to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday.
According to him, in all the medical colleges including in the prestigious government medical colleges such as Gandhi Medical College and Osmania Medical College, the ineligible Andhra students are being allotted the medical seats in un-reserved quota denying the legitimate right to many eligible sons of the soil. Sadly, 100s of Telangana meritorious students seem to have lost medical seats due to the illegal formula being adopted by the local health university during the admission process.
It is a known fact that as per the prescribed norms, there is 15% ‘unreserved quota’ in allotting medical seats to all the eligible and meritorious students irrespective of their region and caste and the rest 85% seats should be compulsorily filled with locals following the reservations.
However, Dr Sravan Dasoju alleged that Karunakar Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), by violating the norms is favoring ineligible non-local students thereby betraying the local Telangana students in allocation of seats. For example, 8 Telangana meritorious students who secured admissions in the ‘unreserved quota’ at Gandhi Medical College went to other colleges at their own discretion. Due to this, 8 students with better ranks should have been pushed up to the unreserved quota from the local reserved quota thereby ensuring those local seats are given to the local Telangana students only, he said.
“At the behest of Mr. Karunakar Reddy along with his private agency, 8 Andhra students with poor ranks compared to Telangana state students have secured admissions in the unreserved category in Gandhi Medical College. This is not only the case with Gandhi medical college as the reports have been suggesting that it has been done in Osmania medical college and also in almost all other medical colleges in the state”, but Dr. Sravan also explained.
Earlier neighboring Andhra Pradesh state’s NTR Health University has also made a similar mistake and later realized the fact and rectified it. “We only wonder why the Telangana government is not even reactive enough and at least learning lessons from Andhra Pradesh?”, he asked.
Dr. Sravan further stated that the reports suggest that a private agency has been engaged by KNRUHS for handling all the admissions procedures. Does no one know about the credentials of that private agency? What are the nexus between KNRUHS, Department of Medical Education, and this so-called private agency, which is, reportedly, responsible for a lot of malpractices? Let me remind you that we have a dreadful experience of a private agency called M/S Globarena in the Board of Intermediate causing suicides of dozens of innocent students. I appeal to the Government to wake up from their slumber and immediately cancel all the illegally allocated seats and do justice to sons of the soil.
“Further, let me submit that there are many other irregularities taking place at KNRUHS, while it is alleged that the present vice-chancellor is responsible for such manipulations. There is also a serious violation of BC reservations in medical seats and despite repeated appeals, the Vice-chancellor is adamantly ignoring the rule of reservations depriving the due share of seats to BC students”, he said.
