SRSP to be completed on time: Harish

Hyderabad: The State Government is spending Rs 1100 cr for strengthening the and completing the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) on a war-footing and the farmers under it should make use of waters for crops in a careful manner, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao appealed today. Harish participated in a review meeting along with Agriculture Minister P Srinivas Reddy, MP Kavitha, Mission Bhagiratha Chairman and MLA V Prashanth Reddy, MLAs B Goverdhan, Jivan Reddy Shakil, Vidyasagar Rao, ENC Muralidhar and officials on the SRSP and plan for careful use of waters as the project has less waters. Steps will be taken to release the waters for the crops under the SRSP when waters come from upper areas into the project. He said that through SRSP waters will be released for crops through Kakatiya Canal, Lakshmi Canal, and Saraswathi Canal. The government is ready to release waters to ayacut farmers if the project gets rain waters from upper areas provide sufficient rain fall. We are regularly monitoring the water level and requirements of farmers through MLAs and officials through field level visits.

The irrigation Minister stated that the works of the project are in full swing and complete the same by Yasangi season. The government is determined to complete the works and protect the interests of the farmers by supplying waters for two crops.

However, some political parties and leaders are carrying out negative campaign against the projects he expressed concern. They are criticising the government of corruption in the projects which is not true. The minister appealed to the farmers and people not to get carried away by such malicious campaign by the opposition parties. The farmers should understand the situation and cooperate with the government he added. (NSS)
