State Chief Secretary Alerts District Collectors as Heavy Rains Forecasted

In light of the Meteorological Department’s forecast for heavy rains across the state for the next three days, State Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari has issued an alert to all district collectors, urging them to remain vigilant. The announcement follows a week of widespread rains that have prompted continuous monitoring by the Chief Minister, who has instructed officials to take proactive measures to prevent any loss of life or property.

In a teleconference held to discuss preparedness, Chief Secretary Kumari emphasized the need for coordination among various departments, including the police, irrigation, panchayat raj, fire services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). She directed collectors to set up rehabilitation centers in advance and ensure readiness to provide emergency assistance at any time.

“Special control rooms should be established in all districts to ensure a swift response to emergencies,” said Kumari. She stressed the importance of vigilance in low-lying areas, tank bunds, and flood-prone regions, advising that security measures be implemented to prevent people from crossing overflowing streams.

Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender and Planning Secretary Sandeep Sultania also participated in the teleconference. DGP Jitender reported that police commissioners and Superintendents of Police (SPs) are working in close coordination with district collectors and other officials, supervising the situation on the ground. Planning Secretary Sultania noted the possibility of moderate to heavy rains accompanied by winds of 30 to 40 km/h in several districts over the next three days.

The Bhadradri Kothagudem Collector reported that the second flood warning has already been issued at Bhadrachalam, with a third warning to be issued if water levels reach 53 feet. Preliminary reports on damaged houses and other losses have been submitted to the government, and NDRF and SDRF teams are on standby to handle any unforeseen incidents.

Chief Secretary Kumari concluded by reiterating the Chief Minister’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, urging all officials to take every necessary precaution during this period of heavy rainfall.
