Hyderabad: TRS leadership today extended support to Inter-State Water Disputes 2019 Bill in Parliament today. TRS MP Nama Nageshwar Rao has extended support to the bill as it will address the issues pertaining to the water disputes among the states.
During a debate on the Bill in Parliament, Nageshwar Rao urged the Centre to come up with a National Water Policy and informed the House that the TRS will support it. Water disputes bill was required for the nation and the TRS offers its support to it, he added. He also said as per estimates of Central Water Commission, about 70,000 tmc waters are going waste into the sea. He informed the House that 40,000 tmc water was sufficient for irrigation and 10,000 tmc for drinking water and industrial needs. If the water policy is brought, the entire country can overcome the problem of water disputes, he opined.
He pointed out that the Telangana State Government built the world’s largest Kaleshwaram project to address irrigation and drinking water problems in the State and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao built this project in a record time of just three years, he said. He also said the Telangana CM has resolved the 33-year-long inter-state water dispute within three years by constructing the Kaleshwaram project.
“Our government plans to bring 45 lakh acres under irrigation and cater to drinking water needs in the State through Kaleshwaram, which was known as one of the biggest multi-stage lift projects in the world. The Centre should bring in national water policy to address irrigation and drinking needs across the country, he added. (NSS)
