To mark the eve of Telangana state formation day with sports fervour, a four day Indra Reddy Senior Inter District Kabaddi Championship for Men and Women is being organised at Badangpet municipality under Maheshwaram constituency that would be held from 2nd to 5th June.
The sports event is being organised by TRS Wing Badangpet in association with Nava Shakti Creda Mandal Hyderabad and Rangareddy District Kabaddi Association under Telangana Kabaddi Association.
According to officials, teams from all the 33 districts are taking part in the sports event for which elaborate arrangements are being made on a war footing at Badangpet Municipal Ground. The teams being selected in this four daylong sports event would be qualified for a national competition to be held in Haryana soon.
Elucidating about the sports event starting from June 2 at Badangpet Municipal Ground, Ravi Kumar, Secretary Rangareddy District Kabaddi Association said, “A total number of 68 teams both from male and female segments, 34 of boys and 34 of girls, are taking part in the competition-cum-selection trails out of which 12 teams will be selected for the for the national event to be held in Haryana.”
It is learnt that the four day long competition is a brain child of two sports personalities from Maheshwaram constituency such as Circle Inspector Meerpet Mahender Reddy, who served as an international kabaddi player and represented the state on several international platforms before joining the police department and another is the Commissioner Badangpet Municipality Krishna Mohan Reddy who, as a boxing player, has prove his mettle in several competitions before becoming a bureaucrat in a municipal administration.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner Krishna Mohan Reddy today visited the Badangpet Municipal Ground on Monday and inspected the arrangements at the arena. He spontaneously instructed the officials for elaborate arrangements for the second most important sports event of the Kabaddi players before they make it into national competition.
Minister of Education P.Sabita Indra Reddy, who is also representing Maheshwaram constituency, will kick start the Inter district sports carnival at 4.00 pm on 2 June that would continue till June 5.
