Sweden, Finland To Submit NATO Applications; US, Germany Extend Support

In the latest updates, Sweden and Finland mutually present their applications for NATO participation on Wednesday, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said. NATO participation will reinforce security in Sweden as well as in the Baltic Sea area, she added at a public interview on Tuesday with visiting Finnish President Sauli Niinisto.

Submitting joint applications with Finland “implies that we can add to security in northern Europe,” Andersson said. Security in the two nations is firmly connected, she said, and close participation has been vital.

“Our joint NATO application is a sign that we are joined for what’s to come.” Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde marked the country’s NATO participation application on Tuesday morning.

Andersson and Niinisto are then booked to meet with US President Joe Biden in Washington on Thursday, as indicated by the Swedish government.

Meanwhile, Germany and US have extended their full help and reported measures to reinforce security in the Baltics. German chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the German military will perform war drills with the two countries.
