As a response to the Central government’s orders to collect a Rs 50 penalty each day demanding settlement of Auto Fitness Renewal and other justifiable complaints, the Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee (TADJAC) has called for an indefinite Auto Bandh in the city from April 11.
With its effect from April 1, the LPG price per litre rose from Rs 65.96 to Rs 74.92. This development was strongly opposed by the JAC. TADJAC convener Mohammed Amanullah Khan, while addressing the media, appealed to K Chandrashekar Rao to use State powers to help poor auto drivers and disregard orders from the Centre in this regard.
Prior to this, he expressed his gratitude to KCR for giving a 75 per cent discount on pending traffic police challans until April 15. In addition, he requested that the Chief Minister invite auto drivers’ representatives to Pragathi Bhavan and to have meals with them the way he did with TSRTC workers in the past, and to resolve auto drivers’ justifiable issues so that the indefinite auto bandh that has been proposed in the city from April 11 will not be held.

Previously, the Telangana state Taxi and Drivers’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Auto Drivers’ JAC organised a protest in front of the RTA commissioner’s office, protesting against the centre’s policies and the state’s indifference towards the workers.
The strike was to fight for the rightful implementation of policies, such as increasing auto fares, issuing auto permits, lowering insurance premiums, establishing an auto drivers’ welfare board, banning illegally running autos in other districts, and issuing 20,000 auto permits in Greater Hyderabad city, said B Venkatesam, state secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).
They claimed that, despite the fact that the Taxi Aggregator Policy was authorised by the federal government in 2020, the state had failed to assure its implementation.
