Teacher protests to take place at Hyderabad collectorates on May 18

The Upadhyaya Sanghala Porata Committee (USPC) announced that it would stage protests at all district collectorates across the State on May 18. The steering committee of the USPC stated in a statement that the protest was over ‘indifference’ by the State Education department in notifying teachers of promotions and transfers.

For the last seven years, USPC has been losing out on promoting teachers, which has caused students and teachers to be at a loss. During the current summer vacation, the Education Minister assured the completion of the transfer and promotion process. Despite the end of half the summer holidays, no action has been taken yet on this issue.

Following the new presidential orders, the minister said teachers were not facing any obstacles in their promotion to assistants and heads of schools. According to the statement, the announcement of the transfer and promotion schedule was delayed. K Chandrashekar Rao was urged by the teachers’ body to intervene and direct the department to announce the schedule. Likewise, GO 317-related problems, such as spouse and mutual transfers, were pressed for immediate resolution.

The statement called for the timely release of salaries every month on the first, and for the clearing of supplementary bills to cease to be delayed. Teachers have said that they oppose being paid two per cent of their salaries to provide cashless medical care. This should only be decided after due consultation with the teachers’ and employees’ unions.

He was taken into custody this morning from his residence at Kondapur in Hyderabad, where he served as municipal administration and urban development minister under the TDP regime.
