In a surprising turn of events, Shruti Haasan has been replaced by actress Mrunal Thakur in Adivi Sesh’s upcoming action drama, Dacoit. The film, which had initially featured Haasan in the lead alongside Sesh, is now seeing the actress exit the project due to reported issues with her attitude. According to a source close to the unit, “The team couldn’t handle Shruti Haasan’s attitude at some point, leaving them with no option but to replace her with another actress.”
The movie, being directed by Shaneil Deo in his directorial debut, is an ambitious pan-India action drama being shot simultaneously in both Hindi and Telugu. Dacoit tells the intense story of an angry convict seeking revenge on his ex-girlfriend who betrayed him, with a dangerous plan that sets the stage for a compelling drama filled with themes of love, betrayal, and vengeance.
The makers, who had previously released promotional content featuring Haasan, have now unveiled new posters with Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, marking a shift in the film’s direction.

On his birthday, Adivi Sesh took to social media to officially announce Mrunal Thakur’s addition to the film, welcoming her as the new leading lady. “Mrunal has brought some of the finest characters to life on the big screen, bringing a unique panache to each role,” said Sesh. He also expressed excitement over Thakur’s involvement in the project, describing the film’s story as a mix of rustic storytelling and stylized direction.
For Thakur, this role presents an exciting new challenge. “The character I’m set to depict in the film will allow me to explore shades of playing an on-screen character that I haven’t explored before as an actor,” she shared, noting her enthusiasm about joining the high-octane drama.
Dacoit is produced by Supriya Yarlagadda and co-produced by Suniel Narang, with the story and screenplay jointly written by Adivi Sesh and Shaneil Deo. The team is currently shooting the film in Hyderabad, with a subsequent schedule planned for Maharashtra.
