As the Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Telangana, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that the BJP and RSS are spreading hatred in the country and the Bharat Jodo Yatra aims to promote harmony and brotherhood.
He addressed a gathering after the yatra entered Telangana from Karnataka on Sunday morning, saying that the march will also raise the issues of price rises and unemployment.
According to him, the Bharat Jodo Yatra is opposed to the BJP-RSS ideology of hatred and violence.
He claimed that today there are “two Indias”: one for a select few and the wealthy, and another for lakhs of youth, farmers, workers, and small businessmen
“We don’t want two Indias. We want only one India and all should get justice, employment in it. There should be brotherhood in the country,” he said.
Earlier, Telangana Congress leaders gave Gandhi a warm welcome as the yatra entered the state at the Telangana-Karnataka border.
Manickam Tagore, Congress Lok Sabha member in charge of party affairs in Telangana, state Congress president A Revanth Reddy, and other party leaders greeted Gandhi.
When the yatra marched into Telangana’s Narayanpet district, hundreds of activists gathered at a bridge on the Krishna River at the border.
The Wayanad MP walked briefly in Telangana, stopping in the district of Gudebellur. According to Congress sources, he left for Hyderabad by a chopper and will fly to Delhi.
The yatra will be halted for three days during Diwali, from Sunday noon to October 26, according to a press release issued by the Telangana PCC on Saturday.
After that, the yatra will resume on October 27 from the Narayanpet district and travel 375 km in Telangana, visiting 19 assembly and seven parliamentary constituencies before entering Maharashtra on November 7.
Every day, Gandhi will be undertaking 20-25 kilometers as part of his ‘padayatra,’ interacting with people along the way. He will meet intellectuals, community leaders, politicians, sports, business, and cinema personalities.
Gandhi will travel to prayer halls, mosques and temples in Telangana. Interfaith prayers will also be offered, according to the TPCC.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra started off on September 7 in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. Gandhi finished the marathon walk in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka before embarking on the Telangana leg of the yatra.
