Telangana Government Announces Holiday for Shab-e-Barat

The Telangana government has declared a holiday for Shab-e-Barat, set to be observed on the 15th of Shaban, the eighth month in the Islamic calendar. The holiday will take place next Friday, February 16, as the moon has already been sighted, confirming the date.

Although the state government initially announced a holiday for Shab-e-Meraj on February 14, it was listed as an optional holiday, not a general one. In contrast, Shab-e-Barat, also known as the “Night of Forgiveness,” will be a holiday observed across the state.

Shab-e-Barat is a significant occasion in the Islamic calendar, celebrated with great fervor worldwide. Many people visit the graves of their loved ones and observe fasting during this night of reflection and prayers for forgiveness.

While February 14, the date for Shab-e-Meraj, remains an optional holiday, some schools in Telangana are expected to remain closed on Shab-e-Barat next Friday, February 16. It is common for minority educational institutions in the state to observe a holiday on the day following Shab-e-Barat.

In addition to Shab-e-Barat, February will also see the observance of Mahashivaratri on February 26, a general holiday. The other optional holidays in the month include Sri Panchami on February 3 and Shab-e-Barat on February 14.

With these holidays lined up, Telangana residents can look forward to a month marked by significant cultural and religious observances.
