Telangana Government Enhances TSNAB Incentives for Anti-Drug Measures

As the state government intensifies efforts to make Telangana a drug-free state, Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TSNAB) personnel will receive incentives on par with special teams such as OCTOPUS and Greyhounds, including advance increments and accelerated promotion for exceptional work and exemplary courage.

TSNAB director Sandeep Shandilya claimed that the primary focus would be on educational institutions, film and IT sectors, clubs, pubs, rave events, and resorts. The police will form anti-drug committees in educational and cultural organizations, with a focus on the youth.

All principals of government and private schools and colleges must form anti-drug committees of at least five members, including faculty, parents, students, non-teaching staff, NGOs, counsellors, de-addiction experts, hostel wardens, and district administration officials, including police.

The anti-drug committees will have regular meetings to identify persons who are involved in or consume drugs. They will also arrange anti-drug workshops, seminars, orientation programs, counseling sessions, and awareness initiatives, as well as foster peer policing among students.

To improve their capabilities, the TSNAB will acquire cutting-edge field/portable drug detection tools. These kits, sourced from international leaders, will enable the collection of swabs or saliva for drug testing, detecting drugs at nanogram concentrations.

Sandeep Shandilya highlighted that all actions would be based on evidence, ensuring that innocent people are not persecuted and that the law reaches the powerful. The police will offer incentives for information on significant drug mafias, traffickers, and suppliers, encouraging thorough investigations into each case.
