In a major step towards alleviating Hyderabad’s growing traffic congestion, the Telangana government has launched the Hyderabad Infrastructure Transparency Innovative (H-CT) project, valued at Rs 7,032 crore. The initiative aims to significantly enhance the city’s road infrastructure by introducing flyovers, underpasses, railway underbridges (RUBs), and road expansions at key traffic bottlenecks.
Hyderabad’s infrastructure has long struggled to keep pace with the city’s rapid urbanization, resulting in severe traffic jams, particularly at busy intersections. To address these issues, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has pinpointed several critical congestion points. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has given clear instructions to speed up the execution of these projects. In a recent review meeting with GHMC Commissioner Ilambarthi and municipal engineering officials, Chief Minister Rao emphasized the need for swift land acquisition and the fast-tracking of tender processes.
Following this meeting, GHMC Commissioner Ilambarthi, along with key officials, conducted an on-site inspection of some of the city’s most congested zones. These included Nanal Nagar, Rethibowli, Khajaguda Junction, Triple IT, Wipro Junction, and DLF Junction. These areas have been identified as traffic hot spots where the need for infrastructural improvements is critical.
The GHMC commissioner directed municipal officials to ensure that the tender process is completed without delays and that construction work begins as soon as possible. The project’s timely completion will bring significant relief to commuters, who currently face daily traffic woes.
As part of the H-CT initiative, 25 separate projects are focused on constructing flyovers, underpasses, and RUBs, while an additional 13 projects will focus on widening and expanding existing roads to improve traffic flow. These projects are expected to provide a substantial reduction in congestion by decongesting major traffic hubs and improving connectivity across key areas of the city.
In addition to the targeted congestion zones, the GHMC is also focusing on crucial road expansion plans in areas like Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to Khairatabad, via Rad Sun Banjara Hills Road No. 1 and Chintal Basti, where traffic congestion has been a long-standing problem.
The new flyovers and railway underbridges will be pivotal in streamlining traffic movement, especially in heavily trafficked regions of Hyderabad. With the city continuing to expand at a rapid pace, these infrastructure upgrades are expected to play a vital role in supporting the growing population and ensuring smoother traffic flow in the years to come.
As the H-CT project moves forward, the city is set to benefit from a much-needed overhaul of its transport infrastructure, promising significant improvements in commute times and the overall quality of life for Hyderabad residents.
